The Microsurgical Research Center is located in Lewis Hall of Eastern Virginia Medical School. The MRC houses laboratories for basic science research, operating equipment for microsurgery teaching and cadaver dissection. The center has been the catalyst for medical scientists, physicians and researchers from around the globe to successfully complete break-through research projects which have resulted in hundreds of publications in various renowned medical journals.

The Microsurgical Research Center has been a leading pioneer in the field of Reconstructive Microsurgery since 1981. It is a multifunctional clinical and research laboratory where specimens are processed from both clinical operations and experimental protocols. We use state of the art methods to freeze tissues and obtain pathologic reports in as little as three hours. Special histochemistry procedures used allow us to differentiate sensory from motor bundles prior to nerve repair.
Numerous publications have resulted from our work in our experimental protocols ranging from testing new neurotrophins to enhancing peripheral nerve regeneration, to developing revolutionary microsurgical techniques. Our laboratory will continue to pave the way into the future in the field of restorative neuroscience.

Our continuous goal is to keep improving the results and the prognosis in patients with devastating nerve injuries.
